At Pimperne Primary we are very proud of our musical reputation. Music enables children to share their success and be part of a group in an uplifting and exciting way. Singing, performing, composing and listening to and appreciating music are all chances to express feelings and have the satisfaction of sounding amazing as a whole group. It is also possible to experience different cultures and time periods through music. Our music curriculum has been carefully curated and developed over time by our music specialist to enable children to:
- perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
- learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence.
- understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
Our curriculum offer is enhanced and enriched by the provision of many opportunities for children to listen to as many exciting forms of music as possible.
We have talented peripatetic teachers who provide lessons for guitar, piano and drums. In addition, Rocksteady group children of mixed ages and interests into bands. These children have the opportunity to perform at our annual community music evening. We also have a choir that sings at events both in and outside of school. Annually, the choir will join members of the local community at the ST Peter's Church Christmas Lunch. to share in the singing of Christmas carols. This year our Year 6 will join other local schools and military choirs, as part of a Military Choirs Project performing in Sherborne Abbey. These performance opportunities are central to what we want children at Pimperne Primary to experience as part of their musical education.
